Visitor Policy

 Introduction

QUAIL’s mission is to protect and enhance our residents' welfare and encourage greater social integration using all available resources in the community. We offer a home environment that allows our residents the ability and dignity to live independently with the support of family and community.

Guiding principles

QUAIL recognizes the importance of relationships between residents, their families and loved ones. We also recognize how important it is for residents to maintain relationships with their family and people who are important to them. QUAIL respects the resident’s feelings towards these people and when appropriate encourages visits from family members and significant others.

A team of health care experts has carefully developed a care plan for each resident at QUAIL. We strive to work as a team with family members who have been involved with their resident throughout their development prior to living at QUAIL. Family members are encouraged to make suggestions to promote a resident's development and social integration provided they are consistent with the designated care plan.

Visitor rules

Visiting is a special time. Family and friends of residents are welcome to visit us, but must respect the visiting hours and the rules of our living environment.

Visitors must:

● act in a courteous and respectful manner at all times to other residents, staff and other visitors present at QUAIL;

  • observe any general or any specific infection prevention and control measures that are in place;

● refrain from visiting if feeling unwell;

● knock or ring the bell before entering the house, announce their arrival and introduce themselves to a staff member on duty;

● use the visitors’ book to sign-in on entering the home;

● remain in the common areas of the house, or if their resident family member agrees, their family member’s room, provided the staff member on duty is made aware;

● observe the no smoking rule;

● not remove any property from QUAIL, except property furnished by the resident or their family member; and

● consult with staff before providing gifts or food to a resident as these might conflict with a resident’s care plan and be harmful;

In the event of an infectious disease outbreak, QUAIL may suspend visits for a specified period.

Visiting hours

Regular visiting hours are from 9 am to 6 pm daily. Most residents participate in programs in the community on a daily basis. Visitors should try, as much as possible, to contact the house before a planned visit or outing to ensure that there is no scheduling conflict and that the resident is ready for the visit.

Review

This policy may be reviewed and revised from time to time by the Board.
